I think at least the symlink pointing to the socket directory has to point to a local directory, a unix domain socket is a local communication port.

I think that you are correct, but since I don't have a network at home, I can't check this out. All I really know is that you shouldn't put links to your home file system on a NFS share.


Perhaps a network expert can write up definitive instructions and we can add them to a FAQ.
