Although I am not a developer of KDE I am a developer of OSS software.
I do it because I want to help out. Although I do not want money
myself I really think it would be nice for the people farther up the
chain to donate to my projects. In this case, I would hope the
supporter and the consultant would donate to KDE.

The hardware vendor is not making things specifically for KDE, but the
consulting and support companies should be donation to all the
projects (that request them) along the way. Of course, more money for
the bigger projects. I am not saying donate to the point where you are
losing money, but donate enough that the project keeps going. If the
project collapses suddenly you are out of business, I'm certain you
don't want that to happen, so donate.
