I have never seen this behaviour before.
To see which program is active click Ctrl-Esc.
This should bring up KDE System Guard.
Have a look at User%.
Try to find the program that is active when the CD drive ppens.
Kill that program and wait again.
Once you know which program opens CD drive, you should be able to figure out 
what is going on.
