Nice data. Yes, we (KDE as well as SUSE) are aware of it. I hope you will be 
able to measure it again when SUSE 9.2 is out and post an update. KDE 
(application) startup performance at the moment is dominated by the 
performance of certain libraries used by KDE, such as fontconfig. That 
doesn't mean that there is no room for improvement in KDE itself, but it is a 
difficult and time consuming task to identify each individual bottleneck 
(especially if it is overshadowed by a different bottleneck)

Data like this is very useful though, if you can point to applications that 
are significantly slower than others then we know where to concentrate our 
effort.
