I have the same "problem" with my card reader under SuSE. Maybe the next time you plug the camera in the same session it will be located in the next scsi device available in your system. It works fine for me. Thus, the first time I mount a card it is in sdb1 (sda1 is my CD writer), but the next time I remount that (or another) card it is in sdc1.
