usb-storage detection utility

Hi all,
When I plug my USB camera to my PC, KDE creates a desktop shortcut for
me pointing to /mnt/camera and everything goes well.
If I unmount / remount it, it doesn't get detected, but if I log off KDE
and log in again, the camera gets detected again... what does KDE do
upon startup that forces the detection? I'm using Mandrake 9.2...
