I don't have a 'Selected Background' in my view menu.
I have 'Background color', which changes the un-selected
background color; and 'Background Image'. On my system
with the default color scheme, the selected item text is white and the selected item background is yellow(ish).
That is the global setting in the Control Center:
Appearance & Themes => Colors
and that does work. :-)
