Title: Teachable Moment – The Science of Wildfires

Learn How NASA Studies Wildfires

Once again, it’s fire season in the western United States with many citizens finding themselves shrouded in wildfire smoke. Fueled by high temperatures, low humidity, high winds and years of vegetation-drying drought, more than 7,700 fires have engulfed over 3 million acres across California already this year.

Visit our Teachable Moments blog to find out how NASA studies the causes and effects of these destructive events. Plus, get standards-aligned resources to help students learn more about the impacts of wildfires on our climate and communities.
