HDMI output on Gigabyte BRiX i7-5500

It has Intel HD 5500 graphics, the mini display port works, but the larger HDMI output port produces nothing.  I know my HDMI cable and monitor are good because my Raspberry Pi has no problem showing up on it.

The /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows that it has discovered this:
- Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500

and it has loaded these drivers:
[     3.805] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) HD Graphics: 2000-6000
[     3.805] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics: 5100, 6100
[     3.805] (II) intel: Driver for Intel(R) Iris(TM) Pro Graphics: 5200, 6200, P6300

It appears to be enabling HDMI output on both ports:

[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI1 has no monitor section
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Enabled output HDMI1
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Output DP1 has no monitor section
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Enabled output DP1
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Output HDMI2 has no monitor section
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Enabled output HDMI2
[     3.807] (--) intel(0): Using a maximum size of 256x256 for hardware cursors
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Output VIRTUAL1 has no monitor section
[     3.807] (II) intel(0): Enabled output VIRTUAL1
[     3.807] (--) intel(0): Output HDMI1 using initial mode 1920x1080 on pipe 0

Then I see a bunch of these in the log:

In fact it seems to go on forever, like it is still searching for a matching configuration perhaps ?

Any ideas on how I can fix this and get something to display over HDMI ?
