Why this choice? If mailbox remains with "."=>"^" why sieve should be different and expecially diferrent than before?
I didn't find a reason in the pages you linked.

I'm testing the upgrade from 2.5.11 to 3.4.1.

I found that the sieve dirs under sieve/domain/s/domainname/g/username are changed: usernames with "." were previously as "^", now I find new folders with "." (eg. gabriele.bulfon instead of the old gabriele^bulfon folder).

This requires to publish all sieve rules!

Is there any way to mantain old folder names as it does with mailboxes?

I believe this changed on 3.0.6.

You will have to rename the sieve folders with '^' to '.' after upgrade.
