It still shouldn't crash -- that's still a _major_ bug!

Maybe you've got a core dump that you can analyze?  At least to get a
stack backtrace and a dump of the local variables, etc.?

Sorry, no. Although the system itself is configured to dump cores there are no traces left behind here. This is a test setup so it is likely that I could recreate the scenario to get a dump if it is of any general interest?
