And ignore it when using the indexes. Yes, but where's the patch to do that?

I'll have a guess that something like this already happens. My guess is that the charset mapping tables ignore 8-bit data in a MIME header that should be encoded QP or BASE64 data. I have no proof of this, maybe Ken can comment? (I don't have time to look through the code at this point...)

After a brief look, I believe you are correct in that 8-bit chars are ignored in the header.

Rob, Bron, do you have a sample message with 8-bit chars in the header(s) that I could do some testing on? I suppose I could manufacture something, but I'd prefer to use something that came from "the wild".
