FlushSeenState breaks replication?

I don't know if this is a bug or a feature:

I have replication going for cyrus 2.3.3. However, many of my mail.app (OSX mail) users have been plagued with email that magically reappears or the seen state changes on its own. So the functionality of flushseenstate:1 would be very welcome! However, enabling it breaks replication totally. The sync_server and sync_client don't appear to transfer any data at all between themselves. Turn off flushseenstate, restart the cyrus server, and replication continues happily.

Any way to enable both replication and flushseenstate?

Thanks
David
