This seems like an argument that really proves too much. Suppose someone wanted to discuss the US presidential election on the IETF list and then expressed concern over discussion suppression, would that mean it was bad optics to suggest that the IETF list wasn't the best place?

Maybe a better argument is that 4 members of the ISOC board are appointed by the IETF. (https://www.internetsociety.org/board-of-trustees/)

A public web page (n.b. not a "discussion") detailing the bidding process seems like something the IETF might reasonably expect from its board members.
