As an example, Lorenzo has commented in the past that unfortunate
aspects of early IPv6 implementations having huge effect on battery.
There is a linkage between protocol behaviour across L2, and power
cost.

Doing work to save battery life on a handheld, is not a huge distance
from doing work on a protocol to save DC power budget. Or, AirCon.
