RE: Nomcom 2019-2020: Result of random selection process

Dear Victor, All,

the two roles of “voting” and “non-voting” (advising) members in Nomcom shouldn’t be mixed.

The Nomcom chair and the previous chair are non-voting members.

Their affiliation is irrelevant for the max-affiliation check of voting members.

The affiliation referred to in RFC 7437 App. B sec. 5 is meant to be the affiliation of selected nominating committee members, i.e. voting members.

There is no question or discussion on the affiliation of the advising members in RFC 7437.

Any change in RFC 7437 has to be discussed and published before using.

Regards,

Mehmet

Hi Victor,

FWIW I think you are setting precedent without necessity - only voting members choose, non-voting members advise.

Loa, All,

Upon a discussion with Scott who is serving as the previous chair (whom fills in as chair should I not be able to continue),  I decided to include both Scott (Ericsson), and Victor (Oracle) to be counted towards the affiliation target.  The Chair is a very active member of the Nomcom committee and therefore we felt that we would apply the rule to ourselves as well.

Our goal is to ensure there is a fair process with as little bias as possible.  With reference to Appendix B sec. 5 of RFC 7437, we decided to include ourselves as part of the “Nominating committee” members for the purposes of selection and max affiliation members.

Regards,

Victor Kuarsingh

Russ,

I thought so too,

ARM Limited, Altmode Networks, Oracle and Futurewei are not
Ericsson.
