Ah, thanks for mentioning that. There's such a thing as "-----berry disease" which is the inability of people to comprehend text sent over email that's more than a couple of sentences long. (First observed of people using -----berry phones, though these days it applies to most mobile platforms.) Suffice it to say that widespread use of mobile phones is another thing that impairs all technical discussion over email, certainly including IETF work.
Best thing to do (as far as I can tell) is have a separate mailbox for IETF work and other technical discussion, and don't configure your phone to check it. (Flagging and refiling messages that need more attention can also work, but this requires more discipline).
