Well, the facebook and Twitter icons seem to be embedded in the web page, not loaded from the social media websites, so we don’t need to worry about that at least.

The links are harmless if they aren't cross-site images.   The reason people complain about "share" links for the various social media sites is because they are usually embedded images loaded from those sites, which allows those sites to track page views.

I disagree about social media. I believe those links are useless but mostly harmless. Really, nobody is going to get interested in Internet standardization because some friend shared the front page, but I don’t lose any privacy because somebody was sent a link to a public page.

I agree about the design.
