Yeah, see how that worked for me. I am quite sure i got just
the defensive answr resulting in the maximum and very likely unnecessary
amont of Visa pain.

Oh, the airlines do a pretty darn good job checking Visa whenever they know
that they may suffer financial consequences. Why do you think 1++ million
refugees come to europe via land and sea instead of air risking thier lives ?
Hint: The EU told them tey will have to pay for flights back for anyone entering
the EU with valid papers on an airport.
On the other hand, the same airlines they let you fly from eg: Germany to Greece
without checking any papers. If you forget your papers (ID/passport) you can not return,
but hey, that's your own problem.
