Commenting on one thing only (I disagree with some of your other
comments but, given Pete's note, I don't see it as being useful
to debate them at this point)...

And, if nothing else, the ability to use URI schemes other than
https.  I think that is rather important; YMMD.
draft-falstrom-uri says "URI", not "web" or "http" or "https"
and the difference is significant.
