VeriSign is still used as a brand name by Symantec in their CA business.

As are GeoTrust and Thawte. The paper recognizes the difference between brands and the companies that use them. Then makes an error about what they describe as the largest operating company.

Symantec loses the rights to use that brand in a short while, they may sell the brand to Symantec or re-enter the CA business under their own brand.

The its not just a sloppy mistake, it is a mistake that would have been caught by anyone in the business. So it is a group of academics talking about an industry they have no direct knowledge of or it seems anyinclination to find out.
