Long discussion about IETF on the Internet Governance Caucus mailing list

I believe it is relevant here since IETF is currently being discussed
in depth on the Internet Governance Caucus mailing list (one of the
biggest forums of the "civil society" about Internet governance).

There are two things being discussed about the IETF:

1) Does it do a good job of creating and promoting technical
standards?

2) If yes, can it be used as a "model" for Internet governance of
other, more political, functions?
