Me too, and I'm pretty sure that that's the real issue, anyway. But still, I do think that if supporting diversity is a cultural value at the IETF (and do I have a more concrete description of what that means? No, I do not) it's something that participants can take home with them, and that's a positive thing.
I do think we should be more aggressive about leadership development activities, not just with occasional newcomers orientations but by making more mentoring opportunities available to relative newcomers (of both genders).
