Folks,
I'm the newest IAOC/Trust member (from last year). The previous year I was on
Nomcom. This year I am the IAOC Liaison to Nomcom. All of this has sensitized
me about how little I and others have tended to know about the concrete work of
the IAOC and Trust.
As a simple aid, I produced a terse list that covers the range of things an
IAOC/Trust member has to be comfortable dealing with. (The list was reviewed by
the IAOC but was not subject to an approval process; so consider it my personal
comment.)
If one were trying to describe the things that someone on the IAOC spends their
time discussing and deciding, here's the cryptic list of terms that covers it:
Administration
Event Planning
Venue Selection
Budget Planning
Expenditure Approval
Requests for Proposal (RFP)
Human Resources (HR)
Contracts
Intellectual Property (IPR)
Subpoenas
Anyone involved in the IAOC/Trust will have know something about each of these
worlds.
Note that the IETF often has distinctive concerns and decision processes for
these topics, as with all others. Familiarity with IETF "culture" is,
therefore, as important for IAOC/Trust work as all other IETF work.
