Isn't port forwarding over legacy nat44 enough for you? For me, port forwarding is not enough because it lacks end to end transparency. For example, you can't use PORT command of your ftp client behind legacy nat. See draft-ohta-e2e-nat-00.txt for how nat44 can be transparent end to end.
