SO the answer is to call the card provider and make sure they will honor your charges in that foreign country. This is actually a really good idea since for personal cards they (the Card Provider) bear all of the risk so they are locking down out-of-area charges for personal cards as much as possible. The solution is to keep your card company informed of your travel plans, or get a card which is intended for that purpose.
