Indeed, I thought the primary argument for the Big Giant Meeting was supposed to be that cross-pollination of areas and WGs was beneficial. If we then try to schedule things so that people can conveniently come for just a few days (and, presumably, use the day passes that have just been invented), then that purported benefit goes away. In that case, I predict we'd quickly move to WG- or area-specific meetings with no or fewer Big Giant Meetings. (I am agnostic on whether that's a good idea, but it might be.)
