Well, of course, part of the intention behind creating a uniform DSN
format was to facilitate smarter mail user agents.  Your MUA should be
able to intercept DSNs (and MDNs)  that it receives and use that
information to report the status of each message that you've sent - or
at least, the ones for which you've received nondelivery reports.  I
could speculate about why we don't have such capability, but it would be
just speculation.
