My political goal is to make computers help people in their daily life, and I believe that eliminating the class of users without the ability to subnet, leaving only one type of internet user, helps towards that goal. If there's only one type of network to autoconfigure, testing and deploying autoconfiguring devices is simpler, and autoconfiguration will do the right thing in a larger percentage of cases, leaving more people happy and making fewer people call support.
