Looks to me like people are trying to use technology to effect their
political goals.
Guilty as charged, and proud of it.
My political goal is to make computers help people in their daily life,
and I believe that eliminating the class of users without the ability
to subnet, leaving only one type of internet user, helps towards that
goal. If there's only one type of network to autoconfigure, testing and
deploying autoconfiguring devices is simpler, and autoconfiguration
will do the right thing in a larger percentage of cases, leaving more
people happy and making fewer people call support.
