Contributions to science, engineering, infrastructure, and society are better metrics. In that sense, I'd say the IETF has been far more successful than any corporation, with the nice side benefit that a few corporations have benefited. But, that's not our mission. If I wanted to participate in a corporate hierachy, I'd do so in a job. Our mission is making a global Internet and, IMHO, that requires a different organizational structure.
