That may well be what has happened, and is a good course of proceeding
given Tim's retraction. However, as Tim mentions,

available with the old data, and
https://www.iana.org/assignments/uri-schemes/uri-schemes.xhtml points to it.
So it looks like something fell through the cracks at IANA or somewhere
else. It shouldn't be too difficult to get it fixed.

It is often useful for dispersed organisations like IETF to maintain a visible trail of their history, in matters small and large. That’s why there’s a “historical” category of registration.
