I understand this, and most comments and discussions I've seen mentions this.

A downside of this is that the true number of openings in any given year is half of what it appears to be as the practical term of office is chosen, and then re-chosen two years later.  I would expect that it's less than half because people who might be interested lose their enthusiasm and don't try. Further, given the job-changing frequency in our industry, it can be hard to sustain interest, and management approval, over multiple years. One place it's easier is, of course, big companies.

It's all tangled up, everything's a trade-off.  Every area has a directorate now. Can an AD job be learned in under a year?
