The financial cost for whom?
If I have to rip equipment out of my walls, that's a serious cost to me.

When Google/Nest discontinued Revolv in 2016, for instance, the eventual
lawsuit resulted in them refunding everyone's money.
So, the reward was 100% loss of revenue, except that it got them acquired.
Everyone lost, except the VCs.
