I see that it is an IETF mail by seeing that it got routed into my IETF 
folder.  (It gets there by my filters checking whether Sender is 
owner-ietf@xxxxxxxxx)

On the other claw, sometimes I have to get my mail over the web, in 
which case the folder routing rules haven't been applied.  For this 
reason, I'd support a *short* tag, such as "[ietf]".  To those who 
bitch about the waste of bits: clamp down on topic drift, large 
signatures, unnecessary headers (including spam-detection hints!), etc. 
etc. etc. first!
