Dear Colleagues, Below is an update on the RFC Editor Reorganization project. This information is taken from http://www.rfc-editor.org/rse/RSE.html please consult that page for links to the background material. ------------- === Status of the Reorganization The TRSE, Glenn Kowack, has finalized his engagement, and based on the discussion on the RFC interest list that followed his recommendations (documented in "Transitional RFC Recommendations" (draft-kowack-rfc-editor-model-v2-overview-00) and "Motivations for Recommendations" (draft-kowack-rfc-editor-model-v2-motivations-00), a consensus developed about the role, authority, and responsibility of the RSE and how oversight of the series should be organized. This consensus was initially captured in draft-kolkman-rse-2011 and is currently being incorporated in draft-iab-rfc-editor-model-v2. While these documents' details are being finalized, the implementation of the consensus proceeds. === Implementation The model calls for the formation of an RFC Series Oversight Committee (RSOC; see section 4 of RFC Editor model version 2). This committee is currently being formed by the IAB, and an appointment is expected during IETF 80. In parallel, 3 documents have been drafted by Glenn Kowack; they are currently being developed further and will be used to acquire an RSE. These documents are also expected to be finalized during IETF 80. • Call for candidates • RFC Series Editor Statement of Work • Search and Selection Process Feedback is welcome on the rfc-interest mailing list. === Management of the Series during the Reorganization Olaf Kolkman volunteered to be Acting RFC Series Editor. This role is limited to operational responsibilities for issues that are beyond the responsibilities of the publication or publication functions, such as cross-stream coordination of priorities and other issues. A guiding principle for the Acting RSE is that any issues that are not seen as blocking for RFC production will be tabled for the future permanent RSE. The Acting RSE will continue to make use of the advisory structure that was established in RFC 5620 -- the RSAG. ----------- This is a cross post to the IETF announcement and RFC Interest list.
