Both of you, please test the single-mode boot, ACPI video NOT loaded, like this: 1. make sure just thinkpad-acpi/ibm-acpi is loaded, and that ACPI video is NOT loaded. When loading ibm-acpi/thinkpad-acpi, use the experimental=1 parameter (so that you get the ecdump facility). Use the keys to increase and decrease brightness. Look in the output of /proc/acpi/ibm/ecdump to find out what EC register is changing.
