Bug on ibm-acpi and hal regarding brightness keys

Hi,

There have been quite a few bug reports on Ubuntu launchpad regarding
the brightness keys not updating the gnome-power-manager sliders.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/79135

The problems seems to be that when changing the brightness via fn+[pgup|
pgdown] does not reflects changes on /proc/ibm/acpi/brighness level, and
therefore is not picked up by HAL, leading to the same value always on
the proc interface, and consequently on g-p-m and on the OSD progress
bar.

I have seen a thread in the archives but unfortunately there was no
happy ending:

241%40sea.gmane.org

Is there any input/information i can require from bug reporters on
launchpad to get this on track to be fixed ? Is this fixable at all in
ibm-acpi ?

Thanks in advance,

Alfredo.
