I did try NAME="", but that also didn't seem to work. BTW, I'm using udev-135. Is there a particular order in the rules that I need to be aware of that may affect the default device node creation behaviour? Currently, I've tried putting the NAME="" rule in /etc/udev/rules.d/99-ignore.rules. Would it help if I provided my sample rules and the debug output of udevd?
