Summary list of ARs from this meeting:

AR for Martine: Contact Russ about his AR.

AR for Mary: 1. Post the questions on memory migration in a separate
mail to the list.
2. Find out if the ia64 in the lab is partitionable

AR for Bryce: Contact Jim Wasko to find if fall back boot option exists
on ppc64.

Bryce Harrington, OSDL
Martine Silbermann, HP

	* Discussion on memory hotplug common regressions
The appropriate attendees weren't on the call to address Mary's
questions on memory migration.

AR for Mary: post the questions on memory migration in a separate mail
to the list.

	* Behavior of statistics tools in VM environment.
We had a discussion around the use of tools like SAR in a VM. There
seems to be different issues depending on the virtualization approach
taken. For example when looking at per-CPU statistics in the case of
Virtual Iron the problem seems to be for the tool to be able to
distinguish between a possible CPU and an online CPU (physical CPU may
be "reserved" for that VM but not necessarily online). Where in the case
of WMware where there's no 1-to-1 match between VCPUs and PCPUs, the
statistics will be noticably skewed, as if missing time has been stolen
from the system, but always presenting a stable set of CPUs.

We also discussed the issue of memory in the VM environment and decided
that running the statistics tools in the different possible environments
(on actual hardware and in different VM environment) on the different
hardware types available in the OSDL lab should be made a priority.

AR for Mary: Find out if the ia64 in the lab is partitionable.

	* Testing progress report.
Bryce worked on getting the testing process fully automated, from
downloading the kernel, patching it, installing it, booting the system
w/ it, running the tests and reporting on the results. He has an issue
on ppc64 because there doesn't seem to be any documentation to tell how
to boot with a given kernel AND having the option to fall back to a
known good kernel if the new one is bad (the LILO -R boot option for
x86).

AR for Bryce: Contact Jim Wasko to find if fall back boot option exists
on ppc64.

Next meeting is scheduled for September 27th at 11:00am -12:00pm PST,
2:00pm - 3:00pm EST.

Thanks for your participation.
Martine J. Silbermann
