While I've been able to implement some of what I want using GnomeCanvas, it appears that Cairo provides more of what I need for my project. Given that GTK+ 2.7 (the beta for 2.8) is about to be released, I'm leaning toward waiting for it, rather than continuing to using Cairo 0.4 as it stands now.
