imps2 should work in this case.

I usually run gpm with the option '-R msc' and then configure X to read 
data from /dev/gpmdata, with protocol MouseSystems:

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier  "Mouse1"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol"    "MouseSystems"
    Option "Device"      "/dev/gpmdata"
EndSection
