Hi, installing the MySQL server should be enough. There is no need to install the mysql-connector-c++, because GnuGk is using the C API directly. Make sure you install a full MySQL server version that has an include directory with a mysql.h file. Or you can use the executable from gnugk.org. That has enabled all databases.
