H.460.23/.24 does not have to work with .18/.19. It can also work with GnuGk
NAT method (same function as H.460.18/.19) which PacPhone also supports.
http://www.gnugk.org/nat-traversal.html

In fact you can have one endpoint using GnuGk and another using H.460.18/.19
and you should still be able to do direct media between them as long as they
both support H.460.23/.24.

The purpose of H.460.18/.19 and GnuGk NAT is to traverse media across a NAT
by proxing media. H.460.23/.24 is a logic level over the top of this which
decides whether there is a way that that media can go directly. It will do
some math and make a decision on which way media needs to be established to
go directly and will then disable the proxy for the call and instruct the
endpoints to do something (like use STUN) to enable the call to go directly.

The logic in GnuGk is to use H.460.18/19 of available if not use GnuGk.
PacPhone will just automatically use which ever method the gatekeeper tells
it to use upon registration.

If you want my opinion stick with the GnuGk method for the moment as it is a
lot simpler. Jan and I are still trying to work through the various
complexities with H.460.18/.19 (fast connect/slow connect/fast then switch
slow/H.245 tunnel/not tunnel) and interworking with other equipment.

Subject: Scenario for h460.23/.24 but not .18/.19 ??

Simon,

Thank you for the precisions concerning h460 enable flags.

can you think of a scenario where it would be best to use
the default of h460.23/.24 and *NOT* enable .18/.19 ?

If using Pacphone to Pacphone v2.2, is it best to start with h460.23/24
enabled and only enable .18/.19 if .23/.24 do not traverse the NAT ?
