I hope that the code will be fixed before. The problem
is the cost of search for an endpoint match on each rewrite.
But not having this makes in rewrite rules useless for permanent
endpoints and this is not a obvious for users (even I was
caught by this trap two or three times;)

I had the same problem, I hope the documentation will get fixed at sometime... GnuGk does use the H323 id configured AT YOUR GW to decide what inrule is be used not the GWPrefixes section in you config file. Look for mails of this mailing list with topic "GWRewriteE164IN".
