We have a dual P4 2.6 GHz proxy; it can do about 150 calls @G729 before the CPU maxes out. That's someonewhat in line with your figures.

Well, I always compile with LARGE_FDSET. There are no other daemons running on the box, apart from SSH and Apache (which are both blocked by IPchains). I guess a P3 933 just doesn't cut it. I'll be installing a new Dual XEON GK Soon, so I'll have new results.

Did you enable LARGE_FDSET? The cpu usage should be slighly less with this configuration (or maybe you're also running other processes on this machine).
