The problem here is, I think, that the socket is not closed correctly from the GkStatus class. The way to make sure that a socket is really closed in PWLib is to call Shutdown() before Close() with the parameter PChannel::ShutdownReadAndWrite if I'm, not mistaken, it's been a while. I've looked into this a long time ago, but forgot about it.
