Yes. It can be slightly more efficient - but no big difference.
The only case when the continuous control is required is
when you have simultaneus calls from a single account.
The rest is done by RadAuth/RadAliasAuth modules (call duration limit
for a single call).

There is another problem - many radius servers (including FreeRADIUS)
do not include any attributes with Accunting-Responses.

And the last but not least - sending an accounting update must be as quick
as possible - we cannot wait for until the server replies with an answer, 
otherwise call duration limit control for other calls will not be precise.

But you can build your own accounting module based on RadAcct that
performs the operations you need - it is not difficult.
