I think this is the same proxy H323 functionality that had the Cisco IOS
gatekeeper.
I remember that in an old 2600, it can handle 30 calls simultaneously.

I think the main purpose of this is to interconect two VoIP private area
domains through internet (private voIP - public IP- private voIP). I.e,
a Cisco Call Manager network in a VPN of a company, with an Avaya
Comunication Manager of another VPN-company. If you want to interconect
the RTP traffic of the telephones directly in IP (without a TDM network
between), you need the proxy (H323) funtion.
With this example I just want to mark the importance of the proxy
funtion in the near future (while people dont make a good MIDCOM solution).
