No idea why it freezes, but it started behaving in a similar manner for me in openSUSE 13.1. In my case, it would lock up at the login screen when switching users (it's on a home computer, so I didn't have it set to lock.) I switched the desktop manager using something along the lines of dpkg-reconfigure gdm, and changed it to lightDM. It doesn't look as nice, but it has worked fine ever since. I also had a little bit of trouble with the lock screen hanging on a Debian 7.0 server running Gnome, and in that case, the fix was the same- though I used KDM instead of lightDM. Hope that helps, Jesse Krenzelok Message: 1 Date: Mon, 03 Mar 2014 15:38:12 -0700 From: James Moe <jimoe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: gnome-list@xxxxxxxxx Subject: Gnome freezes at the lock screen Message-ID: <sig.0139508f87.53150454.3070703@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, gnome 3.10.2 opensuse 13.1 linux 3.11.10-7-desktop x86_64 At random intervals Gnome freezes at the lock screen which shows a background image and the time in hh:mm:ss. The time display does not change. It responds to no key strokes. I can log on to the computer from another host and send SIGHUP to the gnome-session which resets it. However, this is inelegant and requires root privilege. Any suggestions why Gnome freezes? Or a user method to reset the desktop? - -- James Moe moe dot james at sohnen-moe dot com 520.743.3936 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://www.enigmail.net/ iEYEARECAAYFAlMVBFQACgkQzTcr8Prq0ZN6swCgjCorqlhGt+7yqQsgwWBLtsw6 MSkAoIl7emFNXYaWdj/vl/iFjzR9y0zX =gT+X -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ gnome-list mailing list gnome-list@xxxxxxxxx https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gnome-list
