Hi, After a couple of unclean system shutdowns, I'm unable to start gdm except in "failsafe mode." I get a dialog saying "your session lasted less than 10 seconds" and advising me to examine my .xsession-errors, which reads: /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp /etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "dave" write wtmp entry: No such process I've attached a compressed Xorg.0.log, which ends with a string of drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID PCI:1:0:0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is 6, (OK) drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 6 drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card1 drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: Open failed drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card2 drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device) drmOpenDevice: Open failed ... etc., culminated in this truncated entry: drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns -1023 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card165 drmOpenDevice: ope I can't tell whether this issue needs to be fixed at the gdm, xorg, or fglrx level (or somewhere else) so I'd appreciate any useful information you have. Thanks, Dave
